Eagles Crash Out of Nations Cup As Egypt, Lybia, Ghana, Reach Semi-Final.jpg
Nigerian Spartan Eagles yesterday crashed out of the African Mini-football Nations Cup at Ilaji Resort.
The Quarter final matches which were played yesterday saw two North African giants, Egypt and Lybia qualified for the Semi-final stage of the ten-day tournament.
In the first quarter final match played at Ilaji Resort's Minifootball Stadium on Thursday, the Spartan Eagles of Nigeria were eliminated by their Western African foe, Ghana via a penalty shootouts.

After the match had ended in a one-all draw during the regulations and extra time, the match went into penalty shootouts and it was the Black Stars of Ghana that had the last laugh.

The match tagged as the match of the day lived up to its billing as the two teams put everything in their arsenal into it.
Lobi Stars Goal keeper and former Super Eagles Invitee, Moses Ocheje, turned from a villain to hero and later to villain as it was his long range efforts that gave the Spartan Eagles the equalizer.

Ironically it was his fowl that also gave the Black Stars of Ghana their first and only goal of the encounter. But just when the Eagles were gaining momentums, his second foul on the goal bound Ghanian attacker that got him the marching order from the two Refrees.

In the second match of the day, Egypt edged closer to their pre-tournament prediction as they dismissed their opponent,
Zambia, by 2 goals to nil.

Another North African powerhouse, Lybia walloped BurkinaFaso by 6 goals to 1.

Meanwhile, the last quarter final match of the day between Ivory Coast and Senegal had been postponed till Friday morning.
In what the organisers of the tournament, African Mini-football Confederation (AMC) and Nigerian Mini-football Association (NMA) termed as 'logistics problem' on the part of Ivory Coast, the match which ought to have produced the last Semi-finalist on Thursday, will be played on Friday morning.
While the remaining quarter final match will be played this morning, the semi final matches will be played in the afternoon.
