The House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to suspend mobile network telecommunications in 4 local governments in Sokoto State.

The affected local governments are Bodinga, Dange Shuni and Tureta.

The local government share borders with Zamfara State where such a policy is in place.

It would be recalled that the NCC announced the suspension of telecommunications operations in Zamfara State to halt the operation of bandits in the state.

On Thursday, the lawmakers made the resolution, following the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Shehu Kakale of Sokoto State.

According to Kakale, the bandits escaping Zamfara State have been flooding those local governments and carrying out coordinated attacks on communities.

He noted that bandits attacked Galma, Dutse, Buolere and Hausare villages in Wababe district between 1st and 3rd of September.

He stated that the policy will help to stem the attacks on those communities which has been creating a humanitarian crisis in the state.

“100 households with over 500 people and families are currently displaced from Tureta and Dange-Shuni local governments,” he said.

The lawmaker prayed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately come to the aid of the displaced victims.

Also, he called for military and other security agencies to re-enforce the Forward Operation Bases in Dange-Shuni and Tureta local governments.
