A man simply identified as Ayuba has been killed by bandits and his six family members kidnapped in a farm at Labgeta community in Kogi local area of Kogi State.
The area of the incident, Labgeta community is on the busy Abuja-Lokoja highway.
Ishaya Bulus, a relative of the victims, explained that the incident happened on Wednesday when the victims were harvesting beniseeds in their farm.
“They were busy harvesting Beniseeds when the kidnappers suddenly appeared and rounded them up at gunpoint.”
Narrating the incident, he said it was while they were moving the victims into the forest that one of them attempted to escape and one of the kidnappers opened fire on him.
He said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at a mortuary, saying his family was yet to establish contact with the kidnappers on the situation of the rest of those in the bush.
A member of the vigilante in Kotonkarfe Local Government Area, who sought anonymity, confirmed the incident saying the vigilantes were combing the forest around the area to trace the kidnappers’ hideout.
CSP Williams Ovye Aya, the spokesman of the state Police Command, did not pick his calls and did not reply to a text message sent to him on the incident as of press time.
