The Katsina State Commissioner of Information, Abdulkarim Yahaya Sirika has cautioned Journalists in the state to shun mischief in their publications.
Abdulkarim Yahaya Sirika, the state’s Commissioner for Information, gave the advice during a media parley in the state,
Sirika claimed a good Journalist focuses on developmental issues and not on distractive ones.
He asked journalists in the state to collaborate with the Ministry of Information, which is the megaphone of the state government for clarifications on any issues.
The essence of the newly introduced press conference in the ministry which he said will be organised from time to time is to project the activities policies and programmes of the state government
“I will like to use this opportunity to call on journalists to be proactive and to be cooperative with the state’s Ministry of Information and by extension the state government. They should consider us as partners in progress.
“We are not happy with what happened just about a week ago. Just a minor mistake but the reporters capitalized on it to ridicule the Government. Such publications are not necessary. We hereby urge you to be partners in progress. Mischief does not work. A Journalist is somebody who promotes developmental programmes not distractive things. If you are doing that, people will be running away from you. Anything you want to do please, do it for the interest of the public. Don’t look for ways of achieving cheaper publicity through negative things please,” Sirika begged.
