Senator representing Bauchi North Senatorial District, Adamu Muhammad Bulkachuwa, said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may not be committed to zoning presidency to the South West, Nigeria.

He said getting a material that could win election is topmost to any serious political party anywhere in the world, hence, it isn’t about zoning, but about who has the capacity and acceptability to win presidential election.

Senator Bulkachuwa, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, reacted in an interview with select journalists amid agitation and counter agitation on where the ruling APC should zone its presidency in 2023.

The lawmaker said, APC would be economical with zoning of presidency until the political climate will determine it, saying: “That is the nature of politics. You don’t announce in advance where your presidential candidate will come from and in any case, there must be criteria for presidential aspiration.

“Any Nigerian from any part of the country can aspire from any party, but the issue is when you localize it to a particular party, which party will actually want to win and form the next government and will look out for the most popular candidate. Zoning is not the answer”, he said.

According to him, political parties will always look for who can win election to form the next government which may determine where to zone presidency.

On the party congresses, which held recently, he said the exercise credible enough to sustain unity of the party at the grassroot, stressing that few disagreements as a result of the congress would be contained.
